For marginalized groups, truthful representation in film is imperative, even lifesaving, and in today’s stormy political climate there’s an urgency for straight cisgender people to see LGBTQ characters portrayed accurately and unapologetically - and by people who actually know what LGBTQ life is like because they live it. The result is daring and fascinating and ultimately better. Its the story of seven gay friends who get together for one of their friends birthday. With The Double, which is loosely based on Dostoyevski’s famous novella,he’s in for something entirely different than Submarine. Well, you could easily say he’s our favorite new British director. The plotline takes place after a little girl is abducted and murdered and is centred around three men, her father, who is out for revenge, a police officer.
